Speaking a week before the launch of his own latest book, A Human Deadline, journalist and author Derryn Hinch said he had learned a lot about Mark from reading the book (working on the premise that most author’s first novels were around 70% autobiographic!).

Mark maintains that the main protagonist in the story, Walt, is not based on himself – despite both having Armenian heritage, a professional career in journalism and only one ear. Just a coincidence, apparently.

The story follows Howard (call me “Walt”) Johnson on a journey of self-discovery. His personal life features family ties to a mixture of blue-blooded Americans and Armenian immigrants, while his professional world is dominated by his job as a reporter for The Record: a local newspaper upholding the finest muck-raking traditions of the journalism craft.

As his professional and personal worlds collide, Walt realises that he must uncover keys from his past to unlock his mysterious future.

Set for release in mid-November, One Off is Mark Kestigian’s debut novel, drawing on a lifetime of experiences in an often misunderstood part of the world.
